Andy Parr writes: This was Stratford's most unreliable Class 47 and failed frequently, including during its only Royal train duty (failed at Shenfield). It was eventually confined to freight trains, including the Southminster sand with which it ran away down Wickford bank, and caught fire due to the brakes burning away. It came back from Crewe as 47 006 and still gave considerable trouble until it was stripped in the DRS; it worked perfectly after that.
